Ile Sainte-Marguerite, Cannes
Le Grand Jardin is the only private villa on Ile Ste-Marguerite, the large island off the Mediterranean coast at Cannes. Charles Mackintosh Chartered Surveyors were retained by an International Bank to monitor the major renovation of this historic property. This was a large project, where the main villa, extensive guest house, two guest cottages, swimming pool and classified tower all had to be renovated and restored. As well as all journeys to the site being by ferry, all materials had to be transported onto and off the island by boat. Also, the renovation of the classified tower had to be completed with the approval of the Architectes de Bâtiments de France (ABF). An interesting feature of the project was the preservation of the large water bassin, where Napoleon’s horse Marengo is said to have watered.
